Incapacity & Poor Performance Management
BizConsult assists employers with processes relating to poor performance, ill health and other capacity concerns. We help assess the facts, record expectations and consultations, and choose a process that fits the circumstances of the individual matter.
Assessing a capacity concern
An employee's difficulty performing their role requires careful assessment of the circumstances. Poor performance, ill health and other capacity concerns can involve different facts and records, so the appropriate process depends on the individual matter.
How BizConsult assists
BizConsult helps employers identify the concern and distinguish conduct issues from capacity concerns. We assist with setting and recording performance expectations, planning improvement and review processes, and organising the documents that support each step. Where ill health is involved, we support an appropriate consultation process and consideration of available support or adjustments.
The aim is to help managers approach the matter consistently, keep the relevant records together and communicate clearly with the employee.
How the engagement works
- We discuss the role, the concern and the information available.
- The employer supplies relevant performance, attendance or medical information as appropriate.
- We help plan the agreed process and supporting documentation.
- We assist with reviews, consultation records and next steps within scope.
What to prepare
- The employment contract, job requirements and relevant policies.
- Performance records, previous feedback and improvement plans.
- Attendance records and other information relevant to the concern.
- Notes of discussions already held with the employee.
